Packing Tips To Make Your Move Less Stressful

Packing Tips to Make Your Move Less Stressful

Regardless of why you’€™re moving, the moving process is almost always stressful. We’€™ve comprised five tips that will make packing for your move as stress-free as possible:

Go ahead and assemble an overnight Bag

Whether you’€™re moving a home or a business, you should always carry an overnight bag.

Your overnight bag should have everything you need to survive 1-3 nights away from your stuff. If you’€™re moving to a new home, you should have things like your toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, contact lens solution, and whatever else you need for your day-to-day.

If you’€™re moving a business, consider having a laptop and an external hard drive (or cloud storage) with all important data backed up. That way, if your move takes longer than expected, clients aren’€™t forced to struggle with your move.

Defrost your refrigerator

Many good moves have been ruined by poor refrigerator planning. Remember to defrost your refrigerator at least a day or two before your move. Wipe up any liquid that melts onto your floor and consider moving your refrigerator to your garage before you begin.

Otherwise, you may have a stinky, wet, awful mess on your hands once you get to your new home. And that’€™s a guaranteed way to make your move instantly more stressful.

Sell or donate items you don’€™t need or want

One of the best tips for a stress-free move is to sell or donate items you don’€™t need or want. Do you really have room for that couch in your new home? Is that old dining room table really going to survive the move?

Sell old stuff on your local classifieds site -€“ like Craigslist. Or, donate it to a local charity. Not only will this reduce the number of items you have to move, but it could provide some extra money to put towards the move.

Color code and label your boxes

This tip is particularly important if you have a lot of stuff to move. Color code your boxes, label them, and describe exactly where they’€™re supposed to go.

Movers will appreciate this (many will even label boxes on their own) and it will make life easier for your friends as well.

Realize that hiring movers can often pay for itself

Whether you’€™re moving across the town or across the country, hiring professional movers will sometimes pay for itself. Many people are surprised to learn just how cost-effective professional movers can be -€“ especially when it comes to moving lots of valuables. Movers have insurance, professional experience, and all of the equipment needed to protect your valuable stuff.
